Imagine a gathering of more than 600 pastors and lay leaders from across Central America and Mexico, each man there to hear a call to expository preaching. Each there to hear from some of the most gifted Bible expositors in the world.

Such was the case in early December in Honduras as Ministerios Evangelicos de las Americas (MEDA) held its first Super-Conference, entitled “A Call to Preach.”

The list of speakers was profound: Pastor John MacArthur of Grace Community Church, Dr. Evis Carballosa (the leading commentary writer in the Spanish-speaking world and a MEDA faculty member), Pastor Henry Tolopilo (the voice of the Spanish language version of “Grace to You”), Pastor Carlos Montoya (President of MEDA), and pastor/MEDA professor Adrian Donato.

“Those in attendance were overwhelmed at the clarity of the call to return to Biblical Exposition,” Donato wrote in a recent conference report. “And they were decisive in their commitment to do so.”

In addition to the first Super-Conference, the MEDA Seminary for Expository Preaching (SEPE) graduated its first crop of a dozen men. Pastor MacArthur challenged each with his message on the hardship that awaits all who commit to preach the truth.

“It was pretty awesome to see our men dressed in caps and gowns walking down the aisle to receive their diplomas,” Donato wrote. “We graduated two men with Master’s in Biblical Exposition, two with Bachelor’s Degrees in Biblical Exposition, five with an A.A. in Biblical Exposition and three with diplomas in Biblical Exposition … the Honduran saints were impressed with everything about the ceremony, the attire, the solemnity, the preaching, and the faculty. They had many encouraging words to share. As Pastor MacArthur observed, SEPE has taken the high ground and is poised to impact the Spanish-speaking world.”
