Book Translations

Currently in Russia there is a considerable lack of doctrinally sound and serious biblical literature. Because of this deficit, it is difficult for believers who want to supplement their study of the Bible to do so. As we look at church history, we see that Christ-centered resources such as biblical commentaries, interpretive helps, theologies, and written sermons are essential for the growth of the church. We are committed to offering Russian speakers – both pastors and non-pastors alike - resources that will aid in their knowledge of, and love for, the Lord Jesus Christ. It is our firm belief that providing Russians with solid literature and other biblical resources is crucial to the long-term growth and effectiveness of the church in Russia.

One way that we can provide much-needed biblical resources is by translating existing books into the Russian language. We work with Russian publishers to translate, publish, and distribute quality biblical resources that will make a significant contribution to the health of the Russian church. We have already translated four books (click here to view completed translations).  We are currently working on the following translation projects:

Toward an Exegetical Theology

by Walter C. Kaiser Jr.

Walter Kaiser's book, Toward an Exegetical Theology, has long been considered one of the best textbooks on hermeneutics and exegesis for serious students of God's Word. First appearing in the English language twenty-six years ago, this book has become especially important for students who are beginning to work with the original languages of the Old and New Testaments.

In the Russian-speaking church, where few pastors and Bible teachers have competency in the biblical languages, a book like Toward an Exegetical Theology is vital for those who heed the call to more careful, objective study of the biblical text. The result of this translation will be immeasurable: God will be glorified in the deeper, clearer, more accurate understanding and proclamation of His Word.

With the permission of Baker Book House, Samara Theological Seminary has translated Dr. Kaiser's book into the Russian language, and a major Russian Christian publisher has agreed to publish the book. The book is scheduled to be printed early in 2008.

Holman Old Testament Psalms Commentary - Psalms 1-75
by Steven J. Lawson

No other book in the Bible compares with the wonder of the sacred collection of inspired worship songs known as the Psalms. Considered by many to be the most loved portion of Scripture, the Psalms have been a bedrock of comfort and a tower of strength for believers in every experience of life.

Steve Lawson's work provides commentary on Psalms chapters 1-75. Some of the key Psalms receive an added in-depth treatment that includes exposition, illustrations, and teaching plans while providing an introductory overview of each of the Psalms. The latest volume in the Old Testament series will equip Russian teachers and pastors in preparing to teach and preach the words composed from the shepherd king's heart.

Spurgeon v. Hyper-Calvinism; The Battle for Gospel Preaching

by Iain H. Murray

In the wide coverage given to Spurgeon's ministry since his death in 1892, one controversy in which he was at the centre has been left largely untouched. It concerned what his Autobiography called 'the first serious attack' on his ministry. Fellow Baptists of Hyper-Calvinistic persuasion condemned him for believing that Christians must make an 'impassioned appeal to every sinner to come to Christ and be saved'.

To this Spurgeon replied that he was not only teaching what was in the old Baptist Confessions, but, more important, his evangelistic preaching was true to the New Testament itself. After a portrait of Spurgeon as a man living for the Word of God, Iain Murray details the furor which his preaching caused among those who opposed his gospel preaching.

"Generations of Grace" Adolescent Sunday School Curriculum

by Grace Community Church Children's Ministries

"Generations of Grace" is a comprehensive Sunday School curriculum designed for teachers of adolescent Sunday School classes.  This curriculum is rich in its teaching about the character and nature of God and encourages in youth a genuine and passionate devotion to Jesus Christ.  Incorporating crafts, songs, and activities into systematic Bible teaching, this curriculum doesn't just teach the stories of the Bible, it brings the truths of the Bible to bear on young hearts.  This curriculum is a rare treasure in the Russian language.

How to Preach the Psalms
by Steven J. Lawson

Dr. Lawson taught a course at Samara Preachers' Institute on “How to Preach the Psalms”.  The students found this material so helpful that we decided to translate it into Russian and make it available to pastors and Bible teachers all across the former
Soviet Union .  How to Preach the Psalms is a compilation of the notes that Dr. Lawson compiled as well as the syllabus from when he taught the course in Samara.  The Russian translation is slated for completion in Fall of 2009.
