WGBS conference in El Salvador

In the Old Cuscatlan Mission Building, at San Salvador City, September 6th and 7th, eighteen pastors came from east, west and central El Salvador to participate in a conference on Basics of Biblical Leadership.  This conference was organized by the Baptist Association of the Republic of El Salvador, and the Word of Grace Biblical Seminary from Mexico City.

Although local government had issued warning about the threat posed by hurricane Felix, that didn't stop the pastors from coming.

“This is a great blessing for my life as a pastor, and I wouldn’t want to miss it,” said José Alfredo Ortiz, who came from San Vicente Frontera, near the border with Guatemala.

“We are here, not because I sought it, neither because Brother Gabriel [Martínez, faculty at WGBS,] planed it,” said Gerardo Ortiz, “We are here because the Lord loves El Salvador.” Ortiz, after contacting The Master’s Seminary, and taking a course at MEDA in Honduras, began praying with a handful of faithful others, and for two years has been seeking to establish a seminary where expository preaching is taught.

Following the Pastors' Conference, on Saturday September 8th, there was a women’s conference on the theme, “Women who are like Christ’s church,” at Nazareth Baptist Church, in San Salvador.

On Sunday the 9th, the morning message was “Genuine Repentance” held at Zaragoza’s Mission, and in the evening at Old Cuscatlan Mission, “True Happiness.”

Charismatic churches in El Salvador, like in all Latin America, are very numerous. But the work of Christian servants in this little Central American nation, has allowed the establishment of more than 80 churches and 150 Baptist missions, where they desire to preserve sound doctrine.

It might be in adequate facilities like Nazareth Baptist Church, or under a ceiling with no walls, like Zaragoza Baptist Mission, but genuine believers attended from early in the day until late, willing and eager to pray and learn more about our Lord.

May our Lord continue to pierce our hearts, and use us to pierce El Salvador with His Word.
