KEY DETAILS ON EXPOSITORY PREACHING AND TEACHING ACADEMY

About

  • We exist to train Bible teachers and preachers in sound doctrine so that the gospel may advance across Myanmar through healthy local churches.

    • Train existing pastors in expository preaching

    • Equip church planters in restricted-access locations

    • Develop biblically grounded resources in the Burmese language

  • We have weekly classes on campus as well as an online hybrid option.

We utilize Canvas (the online learning platform) primarily for assignment submission.

Key courses include Expository Preaching, Theology, Hermeneutics, and Pastoral Ministry.

Most of our students are currently serving as pastors. Some of our students are Sunday school teachers or youth workers.

Training

    • Biblical Studies Certificate

    • Master of Ministry in Expository Preaching

    • Master of Arts in Theological Studies

  • EPTA was founded in 2012 after leaders involved with The Master's Academy International conducted conferences for many years in Myanmar. The training center started under the supervision of Pastoral Training Seminary in India with just two local Myanmar faculty members who had graduated from PTS. The Lord has expanded the team now beyond the many international guest instructors to include four local faculty members and three team members helping with administration. The active student body has grown to about thirty students at the beginning of the 2025 academic year.

  • We hope to establish a network of churches around Myanmar who share the vision to see the Word of God taught accurately and effectively in all regions of the country. We want to focus especially on offering training to pastors who seek to work in unreached areas by planting healthy local churches. Lord willing, we will continue using the online training option to accomplish this goal, while also opening two to three additional satellite campuses over the next ten years.

Note: The largest ethnic group—the Burman (or Bamar)—dominate politics, and the military ranks are largely drawn from this ethnic group; the Burman mainly populate the central parts of the country, while various ethnic minorities have traditionally lived in the peripheral regions that surround the plains in a horseshoe shape; the government recognizes 135 indigenous ethnic groups.

    Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons

Internally Displaced Persons: 1.975 million (government offensives against armed ethnic minority groups near its borders with China and Thailand, natural disasters, forced land evictions) (2023)

    Stateless Persons: 600,000 (2022)

    Stats from CIA.gov

  • Myanmar is home to ethnic Burmese and dozens of other minority groups that have resisted consolidation throughout the country's history. British rule over Myanmar began in the 1820’s and extended until 1937. Myanmar gained full independence in 1948. The second half of the twentieth century was fraught with political conflicts. Though Christian influence in parts of Myanmar has grown following missionary efforts there, the country remains predominantly Buddhist.

  • “EPTA has changed my view on God’s Word and ministry which is to be centered on the Bible.”

    T.P., Student at EPTA

  • “I used to think that topics like theology and hermeneutics do not matter much. But now I realize how important they are in my personal study of the Bible as well as public ministry.”

    L.M., Student at EPTA

  • “Previously I used to preach and teach whatever I felt was relevant to our church. But after training at EPTA, I now practice expository preaching–consecutively–book by book, verse-by-verse.”

    A.B., Student at EPTA

  • “EPTA makes training convenient for pastors like me who cannot attend Bible School full time. Because of EPTA’s learning approach, I can both study and do ministry simultaneously.”

    S.L., Student at EPTA

A Long and Winding Road: Welcome TMAI’s New School in Myanmar

In the 2000-year history of missions, one may assume that every nation and people group has, at least, heard the name Jesus Christ. The answer can be found in the winding road that is the history of Christianity in Myanmar. Two hundred years ago, this road began with one man.
